Last week I had the pleasure of hosting Family Fun Time alongside Tanya & The Chella project! Tanya is Camila’s in-home developmental teacher, in conversation we talked about the importance of family time and I shared my experience after Camila was born. When Camila came home from the hospital for the first time, she was a little over 3 months old. Camila came home with equipment, oxygen and an NG tube. Before we left the hospital, I was trained to use the oxygen tank and switch between the in-home tank and the portable tank. The NG tube is a small tube that is inserted through the nostril and to the stomach, it is used to supplement food if the baby is not eating enough by mouth. I was also taught how to insert the tube if Camila yanked it out, which she did plenty of times! Going out seemed like such a task, especially if I was alone with the 3 kids. I had a new baby, an oxygen tank, and if we were out for an extended amount of time the pump used for the NG tube. Our outings became limited to doctor appointments. I think back to that and I sympathize. I don’t think that any family should be deprived of bonding with each other due to circumstance. Our goal is to encourage families to go out and spend time together regardless of their situation. We invite all families to join us, with a focus on special needs families!
Last week we hosted an event at the Chino Hills Library, it was so much fun! We sang songs, read a book on CHD (congenital heart defect), we played music with fruit! Yes fruit, we hooked fruits up to a device that allowed a music note to be played upon touching each individual fruit! To finalize our day, we did a family tree arts and crafts project. We took a picture of each participant individually and as a family, then they were able to place it on the family tree and decorate!
We will be hosting another event in September and we cannot wait to share all that we have planned. If you are in the Chino Hills, CA area and are interested in attending please reach out to me, we’d love to have you join us.
